Establishing a Maritime Resource Centre
Mumbai is endowed with a rich maritime heritage being one of the oldest ports for shipping and trading in history in India but unfortunately, the city does not have a single comprehensive, modern National Maritime Museum or Resource Centre. We need to earnestly work towards improving public understanding and appreciation of our country’s rich maritime history, as well as recent advance in maritime science, technology, law, engineering, medicine and all related subjects.
CERE has conducted a Feasibility Study to Establish a Maritime Resource Centre in Mumbai that would serve as a common platform that brings together different stakeholders interested in issues of maritime heritage, marine bio-diversity, oceanography, archeology, shipping, the navy, seafarer health and welfare, education, legislation, development schemes and support initiatives at a national and international level.CERE hopes the MRC will grow with time and become the catalyst and stepping-stone that leads to the National Maritime Museum of India.
