“Best Out of Waste” – A workshop for special education teachers
On 21st November 2019, CERE conducted a full-day workshop at Dilkush Special School for more than 30 teachers who deal with children with special needs. Different types of Teaching Learning Material made out of waste were demonstrated and the teachers were taught how to make these items.
The session included a hands-on activity on how to make:
· Emotion cups and mood clocks for children with autism
· Mathematical cups to learn elementary mathematics
· Piggy bank from an old plastic bottle
· Clock from a paper plate
· Bin liners out of newspaper
· Gift paper bags out of old calendar papers
· Objects out of textile waste to teach them vocabulary
· Braille alphabets and numbers using old buttons and many more things
It’s about time we become conscious consumers and buy only those things which are absolutely essential. We must reduce the waste at source and upcycle/recycle what we already have.
