Water Recycling at PTC Nanveej

The Nanveej Police Training Centre (PTC) in Maharashtra’s Pune District is surrounded by farmlands. There has been conflict between the PTC and its neighbours due to untreated wastewater flowing into their fields.

CERE implemented a natural reed bed system to treat the wastewater. Various activities such as digging of the reed bed, sludge removal, septic tank cleaning, pump-sump system installation and more was carried out. Thanks to the project, 73 million litres of sewage water will be treated annually. Apart from water recycling, the project has had lots of positive impact:

  • Local flora, fauna and soil quality has improved across the surrounding land.
  • Positive changes seen in the surrounding wells, thanks to enhanced water availability and improved watershed health.
  • Conflict resolution reached with neighbouring farms.
  • Water conservation on the PTC campus.
